24 Spring/Summer Season
The FPYC Select Basketball Program participates in the
Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL), commonly known as Travel or Select.
All players interested in trying out for one of our select basketball teams MUST register (For Select Basketball) before tryouts. If you are not chosen to play for one of the select teams, a full refund will be issued.
NOTE: The Select program is competitive. THIS IS NOT HOUSE LEAGUE, the house/recreation league starts in November with player evaluations. Check House League under the Basketball Tab on the website.
The FPYC select program is for talented boys & girls for our 5th grade thru 8th grade teams, who want to have fun, develop more advanced basketball skills and play more competitive basketball games to prepare for high school.
Your child must tryout for select basketball to be considered for a team and is not guaranteed a spot on a team nor is s/he guaranteed playing time. Players are strongly encouraged to attend all tryouts or as many as possible to be properly evaluated but must attend at least 2 tryouts. After tryouts, the coaches select 10-11 players per team. Playing on a select team does NOT guarantee a spot on a team from season to season.
The coach may choose to perform an initial cut after each tryout to get the numbers of players trying out to a more manageable level.
We will determine the number of teams and the level of play AFTER the tryouts have been completed.
Fall Sport Conflicts - FPYC basketball understands that many of its basketball players may be playing soccer, football, baseball, or other fall sports as well as participating in the FPYC Select basketball program. Regarding the tryouts, FPYC basketball asks you to request the other sports to allow your child to be released to attend at least two of the basketball tryouts. If a player is chosen for a Select team, we understand that their first commitment is to their Fall sport team. You should inform your FPYC basketball coach of any conflicts that may exist and try to make as many basketball tryouts or pre-season practices & games as possible. When Fall sports end, during the Winter program, Select Basketball should be considered the primary sport.
If you have conflicts with tryout dates, or if you have questions regarding the spring/summer select program, contact the coach for your age group.
Practices will begin as soon as tryouts and team selections are complete (mid October). This program requires a greater time commitment from participants for practice (2 per week) and games (1-2 per week). Most games are played at gyms across Fairfax County and in Falls Church, Arlington, or Alexandria.
Regular season games will start late November or early December and continue through February. There will be no games during winter break from 23 Dec to 3 Jan.
Playoffs are typically scheduled for the first week of March.
